Don’t Miss Our Opening

September 27, 2018 | Stockholm Arlanda Airport

The Facility

Swedavia operates ten of the world’s most climate-smart airports, and we’re an international model of sustainability. That’s something we’re proud of, but we’re not satisfied. We will always do everything we can to minimize the impact of our airport operations on the environment. Therefore, we are very pleased to open a new and innovative facility for the recycling of glycol at Stockholm Arlanda Airport. Through the facility, we can reuse non-renewable raw materials, and thus reduce the resource consumption, reduce emissions of climate-affecting gases, and create an even cleaner airport operation and contribute to long-term environmental sustainability.

Why should I come?

For the environment, for the economy, for the future

1.

The environment can be damaged by the deicing fluid that is sprayed on aircraft before takeoff. The glycol requires a lot of oxygen to break down and it interferes with nature. In addition, cadmium and other heavy metals are present in the wastewater. By collecting it, the the local environment is spared. Since the processing takes place in a facility at the airport, heavy transport is eliminated as well.

2.

The economy of being environmentally friendly has great potential. In a world of rising commodity prices, recycling is playing an increasingly important role. Through a closed multi-stage process, Vilokan ADF Solutions recovers 99.5% pure glycol that is ready to be mixed into new deicing fluid.

3.

The future is circular. By allowing the glycol to circulate within the airport’s own cycle, profits are made for the environment and the economy. The ADF Solutions process also purifies large amounts of water, which is a major shortage on the planet.
